Explore & Find the Hidden Gems

Yokoso to my journey of Nippon!

My mission is to guide you through the beauty of my country, not only by listing the unique places, foods, and products it has to offer – but to provide you a much more in-depth understanding below the surfaces of them all.

A little about me…

My name is Fuko. I was born in Gunma, Japan and grew up in the United States since I was 12. Currently I work as a nurse in Sydney, Australia. My aspiration is to learn more about the culture where I am from, and to spread the knowledge outside Japan through the course. I am particularly interested in the work of Japanese craftsmen (shokunin), as well as the food (ohhhh yes), so I will report on these two areas for now!

Flashlight Shokunin

Flashlight Japan discovers the authentic and extraordinary work of the Shokunin (Japanese craftsman). I am particularly compelled to put a spotlight on the work that the Shokunins do, as it is not a simple manufacturing process – it is a progressive art to optimise the traditional techniques passed on for generations.

Oishii!

“Oishii” in Japanese means delicious. In here I will analyse the state of Japanese cuisine from numerous angles, including the traditional, contemporary, and an emerging niche for tourists from overseas.

It is my sincere hope that through the stories I cover in my own adventure, that you find a greater interest and appreciation in this magnificent island.
